I liked Harry Potter as a child when those books were coming out but adult Harry Potter fanatics are bizarre, especially those who were 18+ when they got into it.

If you truly want LORE and want to read shit until you get tired, go play Pillars of Eternity. Both games have tons of lore before the game even begins.

As a kid I could devour an entire book in a few days and love it. Now I realize how horribly written and boring they are. Kids are so easily entertained

What’s the magic formula for creating a popular children’s book series? What do they have in common?

Myster element. Harry Potter books are crypto mystery books

A relatively interesting setting and relatable characters for the kids reading them. Harry Potter worked because it was essentially throwing this mysterious world and it's explained in a justified way since the main character and the reader knows nothing about it in-story. Couple that with a conflict that is both easy to relate to and easily digestible.
