For hardcore gamers, it's not quite dead but it's on it's last legs. Normalfags are gaming more than ever before however.
We can only hope. I feel like it's too big to fail at this point though. There are too many idiots feeding this industry now.

Gaming is more alive than ever. That however is the real problem. Literally thousands of bland fucking games are coming out every day. I'm Looking at the Steam Next Fest event and i'm astounded by the fact that there are hundreds upon hundreds of different shovelware titles being showcased on that event. There is so much garbage being put out that it makes the good games so much harder to find.

It's pretty much universally agreed that gaming peak that year so there is a kernel of truth to that statement. I would argue that things were still pretty good up until around 2007ish but that's probably mostly due to running off the fumes of the late 90's and/or the proliferation of DLC/always online games/etc.

There's still a number of good games releasing every year. This year I've enjoyed Elden Ring and Kirby Forgotten Land. I will say I look forward to less and less each year, can't think of anything else releasing this year I'm particularly excited for.
