This series up to 4 is great. Why is it so unpopular?

Tried 1 and 2, but there are way too many cutscenes and tutorials.
When I play horror games, I want to be immersed.

It was pretty popular and growing but nintendo made sure it got killed during the wii era lol.

I've beaten FF2 on Xbox over a dozen times. Literally the perfect game.

But the Wii game by Suda51 was the last good FF game.

plebs can't appreciate good games
FFII is a masterpiece.

Fatal Frame 5 was so bad that it destroyed the series retroactively.

>Only game that's available on modern console is the worst one
That's why

It's universally loved to the point you rarely see anyone who actually played them ever say it's anything other than a masterpiece. Both presidents of Naughty Dog said it was among the greatest games of all time

It had a cult following and still does I think. It wasn't as popular as say Resident Evil or even Silent Hill, but people knew it was there.

Beat 2-4 and just beat maiden or black water recently. Probably the worst in the series as far and actually being a scary but it had some solid moments

1 2 5 all really good
dropped 3 half way
haven't touched 4
>Why is it so unpopular?
cute girls filter normalfags now

its too scary for me so i can't play it

because they're old and they were niche back then.
Only way I heard about this series was G4.

3 is not as atmospheric as 1 or 2 but it does do some horror right.
has a lot of QoL improvements too.

play it anyways

the wii u happened

The game Suda made is 零 ~月蝕の仮面~ (Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse) for the Wii. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water was not made by Suda and it was released for the Wii U.

It was really popular during the old school youtube LP days. Nintendo just let it die though by constantly sabotaging it plus it was way more "japanese" than Silent Hill or Resident Evil.

Just an odd mishmash that's hard to sell people on.
J-horror is niche to begin with, and then slap the odd psuedo-arcadey first-person combat with notorious camera control, then just the regular issues of not knowing when to shut the fuck up or having very lame maps a lot of them have.

Played the first game and I didn't care for it at all.
