NYC is actually fucking awful when it comes to their importing of basic supplies to keep the city functioning, because for some retarded reason the government said that the only trains allowed in NYC are passenger trains, they can't ship cargo at all. Which means the ONLY way to get ANYTHING to any stores (yes, literally every single fucking store, shop, warehouse, and business) is a big box truck parked on the side of the cramped-ass streets.

So the answer to your question is; Literally every single thing that is consumed in New York City is brought in via 18-wheeler, every single day. There is literally no other freight in and out of the city.
