The writing quality between the Persona games IS drastically different- in fact, many people believe that Persona 5 is the worst written out of all of them. And even if it isn't the absolute worst, there's no denying that it isn't as good as some of the others. So yes, people are going to nitpick it to death because it's popular- that's just how these things work.
