they’re striking colors we’ve evolved to fixate on. Red and yellow being fruit, black I’m not too sure on but I bet our reliance on reading pupils contrasted to the whites of our eyes is a big part of it.
White is just the clearest backdrop for other colors to stand out from, you can do it with others but the darker you go the more the background obscures them.
