they really fucked up by announcing
>1000 PLANETS
now everyone knows it's procedural base-building shit

they fucked up by making a crappy version of Star Citizen

should've stuck to their medieval shtick

cope faggots

The current version of No Man's Sky is impressive as fuck. Possibly the most impressive game to date and it's procedurally generated.

What's wrong with adding procedurally generated planets?

They've already hand-crafted their story areas, i can't imagine it would be very hard to generate a bunch of random planets so everyone can have their perfect home base location.

Yeah so everything is going to be bland and not remotely unique or interesting in any way. This game is already confirmed Shazammed

>crappy version of a game that doesn’t even exist
Starfield looks like ass but you’re a delusional retard for comparing it to vaporware.

It'll probably have at least 1 premade entity per system, if not more. Hell they could have 1000 enties if they wanted to, it's not that hard for a company of their scale.
1000 planets isn't even the problem, it's having full scale planets at all.

What's fun about procedurally generates planets? It's just the same shit with the assets flipped around. What exactly are you supposed to do in empty environments with trees and rocks.

It's funny that if Todd had said 17 planets I would have been super excited. But when you say 1000 everyone knows what that means

true, but I think its gonna be a really good framework for modders to work with.

Don't forget is 1000 "handcrafted" planets.

Procedural generation means soulless planets that aren't designed to be interesting to explore, tell a story or make the tasks you're doing more interesting. You'll get the same 10-20 quests repeated over and over with some random loot based on your level. You will never find something unique or experience a memorable story with procedural generation.

base building shit is the only reason people played 4.

You could be talking about literally ANY videogame.

They told everyone years ago it's procedural.

This. Imagine a short but condensed system where each planet had a unique design and had a point. Maybe each planet could affect each other.

But it looks like what happens on a planet, stays on that planet. Nothing is connected. It's all randomly generated. We've known for years that hand crafted world's are so much more fun than random shit made by a computer, because computers don't know what's fun unless a human tells it.

Indeed.
>it doesn’t need unique assets for individual planets
>it doesn’t need good or exciting combat
>it doesn’t need sentient alien species
>it doesn’t need original or interesting planet/ship/weapon designs
>it doesn’t need to launch with creation kit day one
>it doesn’t need to have a settlement system better than Fallout 4’s
>it doesn’t need to have a progression/perk system that does anything other than tweak some damage integers
>it doesn’t need to use an engine better than Gamebryo
>it doesn’t need to run higher than 24 fps
>it doesn’t need white people
>it doesn’t need to have handcrafted planets
>it doesn’t need to have resource harvesting that’s different than NMS’s system
>it doesn’t need to have circular shotgun barrels
>it doesn’t need fauna AI more complex than NMS’s
>it doesn’t need to have graphics better than 2015 standards
>it doesn’t need to have traditional male/female selections in character creation
>it doesn’t need to be anything other than Fallout 4 in space with some NMS influence

No it definitely looks better than Star Citizen

>>it doesn’t need white people
?

Or, there are a few well made planets and many mining ones with skyrim dungeons

What the fuck is the reply. No you can't say this about any game.
You didn't even say anything here. Most games are hand crafted so the experience is planned and each moment has a purpose.

Random generation isn't going to design a fully fledged out story Todd. It can't build narrative. This is the easiest west system all over again. You'll find an enemy base, clear it out, find an item appropriate to your level and then you'll leave. Unless you're one of those freaks that play destiny that have their dopamine receptors fried I can't understand how this can entertain you for liner than an hour

I like this game because there seems to be no white people. Sounds like a future that I want to live in.

>Random generation isn't going to design a fully fledged out story
dwarf fortress did that though

mass effect had HILLS.

Starfield has no HILLS. the elevation differences are pitiful.

Df doesn't make stories, it just creates wacky events for you to retell on Reddit.

did the trailers show a rover of sorts? would be cool to make a custom one
