If they did interact Archer would cuck Shirou into oblivion and we can’t have that happen to the self insert protagonist. Archer/Saber makes much more sense the Shirou/saber because archer has literally all the same positive traits Shirou does but also is closer in age and actual life experiences to Arturia than Shirou, as well as being objectively more handsome.

That makes their few interactions all the more meaningful. Just the fact that the route diversion happens merely because Archer freezes the the first time he sees her jumping over the fence and rushing him. He freezes because even after being Alayas janitor for basically an eternity and being mind wiped he still that naive idealistic boy deep down who was captivated speechless by Saber appearing in that shed. That image is forever etched into his mind. Beautiful stuff.
Archer is for Rin though.
