This is further confirmed by linking the Fire or usurping the Flame in DS3, where in both cases the protagonist replaced him as vessel, either by absorbing the fading and dying flame, or by merging him with his soul, trapped by dark sigils, to create an Age of Hollows.
Soul of Cinder IS the Chosen Undead with the soul power of Gwyn and everyone else. This could also be further confirmed by the theory that originally Soul of Cinder had a questline as NPC, called Red Knight with the later reveal of who he actually was and optional final final boss, since his appearance and data/assets are present in the alpha files
