Bought into the hype and started playing Fallout New Vegas. My impression is mixed.
- The combat is irredeemable garbage in all aspects. Really bad even for a 2010s RPG. At least for guns and melee. - The game is really, really, really ugly. Everything is drab, brown and grey, characters look indistinguishable. Yes, it’s a realistic depiction of a post apocalyptic desert. Really ugly nonetheless.
The positives that keep me playing: + Exploration feels rewarding, there’s intriguing stuff around every corner. + The setting seems like a sandbox where you can make anything happen by siding with different factions.
The main plot seems fairly interesting. But I haven’t progressed much yet.
So, will I truly experience the holy grail it’s praised at if I continue playing?

>ugly yes that is how it's meant to look at best you can install a mod that changes the colors to be less ugly but still look normal but otherwise everything else you complained about was the game engine's fault this is easily one of the best rpgs of the 10s and it never got actually completed
which is exactly why everyone suggests you use mods to begin with and gives you a guide on how to do so with the correct mods that's good enough for a first playthrough

There's dozens of bits of cut content also at one point they had the idea you could play as a ghoul or mutant but the engine couldn't handle it this game wasn't even half way finished and they threw it together at the last second with pieces of string which lead to bug montages just like cyberpunk 2077

just finish playing it, it gets really good the closer you are to the end, and i hope you got the DLC, they are good, you should finish them before you complete the game, because once you reach the ending, the game actually ends, its not like skyrim or fo4 where you can continue after finishing main questline
