fundamentally, the problem that you don't care about because you're a braindead npc, is that spaceplane combat lacks all the interesting flight mechanics of atmospheric combat that makes the fights engaging on a high level

So it can only ever be dumb shallow arcadey shit, and that simply doesn't build up a strong playerbase

until space combat games are made with actual physical depth and mechanics in mind it will continue to be nothing more than dumb shallow arcadey shit that cannot build a strong playerbase

it has no depth, its "great" for playing for 15 minutes while your drug addled brain goes "wow the colors"

But it isn't interesting, there's no challenge, there's no reason to compete with other people. It is incredibly dull and easy point and click for, quite frankly, mouthbreathing retards.

Look at the most popular air combat games, and you'll see that all but the most arcadey console retardo games have incorporated even just the very basics of flight and atmospheric simulation, like lower air friction at higher altitudes, lift and stalling, and gravity.

Space combat has interesting environmental considerations, but they don't translate well to space fighters, and drooling retards don't care about game mechanics anyway, they just want flashing lights and pretty colors on their screen. Unfortunately if you try to cater to NPC's like this you'll find they play for ten minutes and then jump to the new shiny or die of an opioid overdose. It's not worth investing into them because you can't build an actual community and reliable customer base off retards.

That's a cute headcanon you've got but a handful of people have a thing for simulators doesn't make them enlightened beings. What makes one of these games fun are tense action-packed combat moments not more realism.

it is literally the entire air combat scene. If you don't simulate even the most basic elements of atmospheric flight you don't have air combat, you have some drooling retard's dumb idea of what planes do.

And "some drooling retard's dumb idea of what spaceships do" is right now literally the entirety of the "space flight sim" genre.
When someone figures out how to actually make it interesting, instead of designing a game centered around idiotic stats, rock/paper/scissors counters, bullet sponge spaceships, and head to head jousts ad nauseum, you will see more players and more games getting into it

until then you will just whine and complain that your dumbfuck shallow space fighter game with no interesting mechanics whatsoever hasn't been made for you to mindlessly drool over for 10 minutes
