Why is the lag on Hollow Knight for switch so bad? I just did a few tests on the is it snappy app, and was consistently getting 110ms+ in handheld, versus my shitty laptop with v-sync turned on getting ~70ms. And online the only response to it is "works fine on my switch bro." How is this not a more well known problem?

shut the fuck up with this awful bait, shame on you.

It's not bait. HK feels noticeably more sluggish on switch. It's incredibly obvious playing back to back.

because the shitch is a glorified fisher price tablet obviously?

I played both the PC version on a good response time 144Hz monitor and the Switch version and I didn't feel much of a difference, honestly.

Most of the time I can live with a bit of extra delay, but most platformers on switch are definitely more responsive than this.

bump

so i beat path of pain on hard mode? heh... take that casuls...

after some more testing, I found the following (if anyone gives a fuck)

Slash
Switch: ~90 - 106ms average: 98ms
PC: ~59 - 75ms average: 67ms

Jump
Switch: 106 - 122ms average: 114ms
PC: 75 - 90ms average: 83ms

In other words the average difference in lag is ~31ms, just about 2 frames. Interesting that the slash has a frame less delay because I thought it felt snappier on switch.

Was going to get a Switch version, is it worth it?
Is the delay noticible?

Hollow Knight is a great game but behind the surface, it's also an unoptimized piece of shit Unity title. Ori suffers from the same thing. Like covering an ugly woman in makeup.
So when they make these Unity platformers for PC it's not a big deal that it uses way more resources than it should because there's a lot of overhead. But when they throw it out on Switch, it's a worse experience. The Switch can handle games that look like that and better and not even break a sweat, but it's a hard thing to do with Unity.
Fuck I remember when Will of the Wisps came out, it wouldn't even run properly on Xbox One X. It ran fine on my PC, but running it at 4k on an RTX 2070, I looked at the GPU usage and it was still like 80%.

A lot of people played the switch version with no issue, so I guess it depends how sensitive you are to it. I would go PC if you can though.

There's some kind of caching issue. Try actually closing the game software after saving and opening it back up. Worked for me.

following up on this, the lag happens after the game has been open for a long time. It will accelerate if you are stuck on a boss that instantiates a lot of entities. If you keep trying over and over without closing the software, the game noticeably bogs down.

I'm talking about input delay, not slowdown. The delay is still there after just opening the game. It's not gamebreaking or anything, just doesn't feel as good to play.

is it just the switch?

in handheld mode it works a lot better than on the TV. I noticed it was much easier to play on my xbox though

the game on PC has modding

most people dont have issues with it, Ori 1 (not 2) is the direct fucking opposite of unoptimized, even then WotW runs at 60fps on switch

Wotw was really just fucked on release because publishers forced it to be quite rushed in the optimization department, on top of a cut area

>, but running it at 4k on an RTX 2070, I looked at the GPU usage and it was still like 80%.
wow user its almost like that may happen when you run a game with 3d graphics at 2160p and specially >100 framerate

No clue. I haven't tried it on playstation or xbox.

It's def better in handheld, but still not great.
