4, 5 and 6 are good. You can stop there though. Tactics, Xenogears and Chrono Trigger are good too but I wouldn't go past FF6 for Final Fantasy titles.
Define "worth". They're all good games, if old.
All of them but 2
5 is the most mechanically dense
4 and 6 are the beloved classics
1 is pure
However some of them have so many different versions that finding the right one to play can be tricky.
I hate the Repixel Remasters because now they’ve added yet ANOTHER vector of shitposting about which version is the best, so idiot zoomers can say the GBA ones are the best because the Necromancer class exists, ignoring the 4x4 pixel screen and terrible soundfont that no patch will fix.
The only one that’s superior in any way outside it’s music is 3, and only due to the fact that it’s only other variants are NES and Wonderswan Color games.
The 3D remake is good, though.
6 is easily the worst of the remasters, the original is still the best.
3 and 5. there's superior versions of all the others
>the Necromancer class exists
I must not have been really playing it correctly, as I found the Necromancer (well, all of the bonus jobs) completely unnecessary. I mean, once you get your setup that will one/tworound Omega, you're pretty much good to go.
Shit, really? I kinda want to drop the $18 just to play FF6 on my phone.
3 is just a bloated version of 1; it kind of sucks. The remastered version of 2 is actually playable and fun, and it has a good story. Encounter rate is still fucked though.
1 is still the best.
>if you die you don't go back to your last save point while keeping your gained exp, you have to reload from a save file
>mode 7 chocobo stuff removed because they couldn't get map tile collision to work properly
>blitz and swordtech are no longer input/timer based for selection, they're just select from a menu and impossible to fuckup
>colours are washed out as fuck
>delayed the game for 5 months just to ruin the opera scene
>I
If you are into D&D-esque fantasy roleplay then yes. It's the most true to the title of "fantasy" and it's very much an old school RPG.
>II
More like I in setting but with a VERY divisive level up system and more plot. I like it.
>III
I honestly think III is trash. I finished it without even realizing I was in the final dungeon. This is really the only one I'd say skip. It tries to blend I and II by having I's D&D style "create your own cast" but throws them in II's "slightly more plot" world and it does not work.
>IV
The first to have a full narrative throughout. I like it. The plot is nothing groundbreaking and it's very cliche, but the cast is all pretty solid.
>V
90s anime as fuck in the best way possible
>VI
Pretty good. If you've played VII you can definitely see how VI influenced it.
>terrible soundfont that no patch will fix
The problem is that GBA didn't use soundfonts, it only did samples. Which is why everything sounds scratchy as fuck even when converted to the "old" sounds
no, the problem is that the "sound restoration patch" only restores the music, it doesn't do jack shit for the sound effects, so they're still completely fucked. If they'd been restored too, I would actually consider the gba version a contender for best version.
>no, the problem is that the "sound restoration patch" only restores the music
It... really doesn't. It's a far cry from the SNES's original track. The restoration just puts it a bit closer in sound, but no where near in quality. I don't really give a shit about sound effects, so I never noticed that, but that's just because everything coming out of a GBA already sounds awful by default.
>I finished it without even realizing I was in the final dungeon.
How. Did 3 dungeons, with multiple bosses in a row, and not a single fucking place to save your game not tip you off?
He probably played the pixel remaster which dumbs the game down massively.
All of them, to varying degrees.
The pixel remasters aren't the best ways to play most of them though. The 3D versions of 3 and 4 in particular have massively improved gameplay, and the original SNES version of FF6 still hasn't really been surpassed in terms of its absolutely perfect-sounding soundtrack.

The GBA ones are the best. They're honestly the only time that FF, FFII, FFV, and FFVI were actually given good high quality remakes. Everything after is some cheap low effort port or an attempt to fix said low effort port.
I hate how homogenous these ''remasters'' are, using assets from one another, no option for the OGs.
FF1 through 6 is such a cool little pixel art evolution to see and experience and instead, it's now all smooth and soulless, with no art remaining.
Music's gud tho.
I just like the bonus classes conceptually, though I wish the PR balanced them around collecting them in the crystals. Couldn't be that hard, there's even 4 of them so you could spread them out if you wanted to. Or have them be discoverable in the second world post-Forest as fragments of that world's Crystals, or something.
I just don't see the point in completely disregarding content that exists if it can be repurposed with minimal fuss. I also want an excuse to be able to use Necromancer and collect its spells without having to do endgame content.
I'm really disappointed at how easy IV pixel remaster is. Also it seems like they really half-assed the updates to the music in it. It's my favorite of the bunch but not a lot of effort was put in.
VI pixel remaster on the other hand is great. I love it.

Guy covers them in depth to make the right choice
4,5 and 6 are very good and still stand up even to this day. 3 is pretty fun as well but the last segment is fucking bullshit cause you have to do two dungeons on a single save. 1 is fun in a retro minimalistic sort of way and it's fun to replay with different party combinations. 2 is shit and feel free to avoid that garbage.
