Original game: cool, somewhat original stuff

>original game: cool, somewhat original stuff
>big update / remaster whatever the fuck: ironic reddit + rick and morty humor
what went so wrong?

Apparently after The Beginner's Guide, the studio went all-in on VR games, which backfired horribly, so they needed to go back to the safest thing they could possibly make to keep themselves afloat.

the first one was made in a pre-rick and Morty world, and this one was made in a post-rick and morty world. quite simple

what did you actually want from a stanley parable sequel? more endings where stanley defies the narrator and dies in some eldritch, existential dread related way?
ultra deluxe ironically makes fun of what you're trying to criticize it for, because now instead of just being an "video games = art" retard the narrator represents washed up devs trying to capture what made them successful in the first place and failing

>what did you actually want from a stanley parable sequel?
There not being a sequel in the first place.

that would have been ideal but that's not criticism in itself

We've turned ourselves into quite the pickle, haven't we

how very brave of the developer best known for "i am belittling the audience as a joke of course but they don't understand my humor because they're actually pretty stupid" to create even more on the nose commentary about how stupid assholes will continue to buy their games despite every possible red flag they throw at the wind.

the art ending only takes 3 hours 55 minutes instead of 4 hours so the game is pretty much ruined

>no random black pillar
unplayable

>the narrator represents washed up devs trying to capture what made them successful in the first place and failing
It's not "representing" if that's literally what the devs of the game are doing. I'm pissed because I saw a review of Ultra Deluxe spoiling the twist that it was a Stanley Parable sequel disguised as a half-assed update, and bought it based off of that, only to realize that it was actually a half-assed-update, disguised as a Stanley Parable sequel, disguised as a half-assed update.

And then a shitton of Vtubers played it onstream anyway, so I could've just saved myself the $16 and watch their playthroughs instead.

if you had prior knowledge about the stanley parable you already knew what you were getting yourself into, why didn't you just watch a playthrough in the first place?

>if you had prior knowledge about the stanley parable you already knew what you were getting yourself into
The first Stanley Parable was creative and had an element of exploration to it. You were digging around every part of the level to find which bits would lead to new endings, all of which tended to have different themes or at least approach the same themes in wildly different ways.
Ultra Deluxe has one fucking joke, two if you're being generous, and exactly two new endings that require you to put any effort at all into finding them. Every other ending is some variation of "LOOK, IT'S THE THING YOU DID BEFORE, BUT THIS TIME YOU BROUGHT A BUCKET. ISN'T THAT FUNNY? AREN'T LAZY SEQUEL SO SHITTY? ANYWAYS THANKS FOR THE $25".
Go fuck yourself.

the old writing is not anymore reddit than the new one

Because I at least thought it would be funny

>buying games
Sounds like a (you) problem

I liked the first game a lot, and wanted to thank the developer for what I was confident was going to be a good time.

I've learned my lesson now

Well we all get burned sometimes.

Deluxe edition is a literal scam considering its price

>the studio went all-in on VR games
it was nothing more than a mildly interesting gimmick. not even a fucking Half-Life game could save it.

Any OGs here play the mod before the games were even announced?
