The localization team at the time were--and this isn't a boogeyman thing, there's no other way to call it--complete and total SJWs. From all the shit like that and removing entire features from FE: Fates, censorship in Xenoblade X, etc. it was clear.
When the switch era came around Nintendo got a lot more strict on policing what Treehouse could censor, and I think a number of the problem employees left (I remember one got dropped because of pedophilic posts on Twitter).
