By the way the game is only alive thanks to mods, the core gameplay is a chore and Tynan made it as annoying as possible with all the difficulty spikes.

I'm interested in trying this game out but I know nothing about it other than the basic gameplay, is it going to be autistically difficult later on? Will I need to multitask 60 different things or else I'll lose?

It's not managing or microing your stuff, it's the fact that the game starts throwing at you game-ending raids that require kill boxes/cheesy designs to stop.

out of the whole colony builder genre, the only game that actually makes managing resources important is Oxygen Not Included.
a big problem with both Rimworld AND Dwarf Fort is it's piss easy to get a self-sufficient colony up, and you just get fucked by harder and harder RNG the longer it goes on
fun for a few hundred hours but after a while it just feels.....iunno..... fake

still fun tho, i love DF, Rimworld, ONI and all those kinds of games, play them all on rotation cuz they all excel at different things

no the most micro is active defense where you position pawns and attack with them. with mods even the minor micro colony things you dont need to do, atm all I need to do is base build/raid fuckers and mark animals for hunting and with colony manager mod apparently you dont even have to do that

Rimworld is literally my go-to "afk with snacks watching a movie on the other monitor" game
once you're set up you only need to even click something like once every few minutes

It's not wrong but it's rare for the mini-stories to bubble up and become really noteworthy for the player.
