There really is nothing wrong with Elden Ring, but it quite literally plays exactly like Dark Souls 3. At least they actually tried with the combat in Sekiro and Bloodborne.

It has the jump button, so it doesn’t play exactly like it.

The world feels too small with Leyndell being the biggest offender
This is any game with changing biomes.
BB is Souls combat with defensive features removed.
I think is different, but I also think it could been improved. With:
Parry on every weapon more parry frames on Rapiers, Dagers, and all Swords. Less parry frames on hueg weapons, contundent and whips. On that order. But with posibility for heavier counterattacks and whips being able to "disarm" taking you the weapon from the slot meaning you have to hard change.
Double Weapon sinergies, and not just, double kinf double fun. Add Rapier + Dagger, Maces/Flails/Shorswords and Medium shields. Bucklers and tridents. Shortswords and Gloves. Etc etc, there is a lot of posibilities and add unique special attacks for each and new stuff like lances and shields synergies, were to use the new attack you need to block.
You get the point.
And most important. Make ranged combar more engaging making you able to move a little faster when using a bow or crossbow 2 handed (the small ones), put less I frames on bloodhound step and I think nothing else. You tell if you would add something else
Oh, and about the parries, if you fuck up in the parry get harder punishments. So its not just the waiting game for enemy to waste mana/attack you once and then you parry and gg. More high risk reward gameplay
It's actually too big but the formulaic nature of the content and its reuse makes it feel small, they should've just scrapped the entirety of Consecrated Snowfield and Deeproot Depths and instead put the effort that went into its side content on filling Altus/Mountaintops with more shit. Super jarring that the first area of the game has twice as much shit to do as any of the later ones
I've never heard of anyone complain that Elden Ring's world is too SMALL, usually it's quite the opposite. How do you figure this?
As for OP, yeah combat feels incredibly similar in all Souls games. The cool thing about is that it still feels good and it works. Why remake what isn't broken, especially with a brand new IP?
It stills feels more fresh than Elden Ring
This really was a problem cause on the first run I didnt do even half of it. So yea. It really looks like the time was catching up. But in my opinion. Props to them, they made a game this good even with obvius time problems thanks to a good management.
kinda but with how they changed even normal enemies into rollcatch machines you can't spam roll like you could in 3
also l2 is the new r1. unless you dual wield, which in that case almost any mediocre weapon can be sellsword twinblades tier if it has status infused
and anything slow is better off spamming jump attacks. dunno why they thought that was a good idea but whatever lmao
elden ring's world is desolate. i'm not asking for towns or a bunch of useless filler NPCs, but if they're going to showcase mediocre encounter design in the oepn world while saving the good stuff for the legacy dungeons, why bother having it in the first place?
i get they wanted a significantly less linear game since that was a huge problem with DS3, but there's nothing to warrant making the individual 'continents' so large. important items such as sacred tears, golden seeds, memory stones, crafting books, talismans, spells, and crystal tears could've easily been used to reward exploration in legacy dungeons. the half-baked crafting system makes me think they only made it to scatter random mats across the map and obfuscate the fact that the only good things you're going to find are those specific key items i already listed. and i mean those are cool, but really who gives a fuck? i know i'm getting a memory stone if i see a wizard tower, a crystal tear if i kill an asylum demon by a tree, and a sacred tear if there's a church. yawn.
if there wasn't a severe dearth of regular smithing stones i'd have had no reason to wander around the zones at all. instead i spent my time looking for mineshafts so i could use more than one non-somber weapon. i'm of a mind to think that was on purpose so the player wouldn't realize nearly every weapon has an identical moveset within it's weapon class. but whatever.
Yeah the combat is absolute fucking trash.
I am playing a caster and new to Dark Souls game
Is it normal that I can beat the shit out of people in melee?
I'm level 70 and only got like 11 strenght, I'm swinging a 1hander ice axe that I found (and upgraded)
What ruins it even more is the retarded mind reading A.I.
Pure int can do just as much damage as physical builds if the melee weapons have the right scaling, I'm assuming you found the icerind hatchet which would be among those that do
Not having roll ruins Sekiro
Ok thanks
So I should look for melee weapons that have a good "letter" (A B C...) in INT?
I was wondering, do those boost my spells as well? I can see sorcery scaling on staff but there is no such thing on the melee weapons I got
why in the world would Sekiro need roll? Parry and jump are perfectly fine.
The most annoying part of Elden Ring is how they designed a lot of the enemies especially the bosses. They either:
- Make an instant unreactable attack that makes you want to roll the instant they do ANYTHING.
- But then they have ultra delayed attack which will punish you for trying to avoid the previous type of attack mentioned. Not only that but they are also unreactable because the actual swing after the long delay is so fast you cannot see it coming. You HAVE to memorize each timing and exploit the ai as much as possible.
-The damage is stupid. Anything can do a billion damage out of nowhere. Fast and weak/Slow and strong just isn't a thing in this game. It's the same with some ash of war. Balance is awful.
-The input buffering is insane in this game. When the game decide to make me roll after getting hit multiples seconds ago it's bullshit.
-And some bullshit grabs are still in this. The rot knight and Morgoth come to mind. Why are those thrust attack grabs that pierce shield?
No don't fall for the scaling meme. Just use any weapon you want that has INT, or infuse them with a magic ash of War if you want damage. You can also just use non infused weapons and use all kind of grease depending of the situation. Some plant monsters are weak and stagger to fire damage etc...
You don't need to minmax at all in this game. Even with just the minimum requirement of a weapon you can do a lot of damage with the right grease, ash of war and stones to upgrade them.
I think that they definitely need to cut back on the rolling iframes in the next game. Then there would be no need to have these annoying delayed attacks to roll catch.
