V3 is an incredible taste filter somehow considering none of these games are that great. I genuinely like the series in spite of that and wish 2 took more risks with not just it's narrative, but gameplay too. I dont think free time events were needed in the second game. FTEs as a mechanic work well in the first game because they work with Makoto as a character and one of the game's main ideas. Makoto is humbled by being near all of what are basically celebrities, so he's willing to try and see everyone for more than what first impressions would entail. Outside of outliers like Mondo or Aoi, many kept to themselves after seeing the cast and making their judgements, with Byakuya as the main rival giving no one deeper look into because he's above it. Hajime's character is much more a stick in the mud who likely wouldn't want to be near someone like Teruteru or Hiyoko, and keep to a few people. Instead they could of likely dropped the idea entirely and focus instead on developing the characters and having them interact within the main plot, where you would not only get to see info about characters backgrounds, but how others would react, by sympathizing, agreeing/disagreeing, snarky quips, etc. There's a fair amount of problems with this idea but I hope that I might see that alternate world at someday where someone working on the game had similar ideas to mine.
