Litetally just copy the ds4 dpad. I hate the click sound it makez, I hate how hard you need to press it, I hate how shit it is at readong diagonal inputs. I like the xbox series x controller but the dpad is so bad, it's amazing how they try to improve it but they just keep making it worse

I've used a fuckton of controllers and this is definitely the best D-pad I've ever used.

The dpad itself is great even for SNK inputs.
The positioning is what kills it.

The best benchmark is just to look at what competitive fighting game players actually use:
>Dualshock 1-4
>Model 2 Saturn
>Speciality 3rd Party controllers like the Hori Commander

Controllers like the SNES, Genesis 3/6-Button, 64, Wiimote/Classic Controller, Wii U Gameplay/Pro Controller all have great dpads too. Nintendo handhelds usually have good dpads too
