It's how furries reproduce. He went the more natural and innocent approach similar to 80's and 90's cartoons and games like Rescue Rangers or Star Fox. And I think a lot of non-furries enjoyed it, since a lot of the humor is decent enough.
I'm still surprised that the "You need to kill yourself" line by Reed didn't become a reaction image here.
