No, it's not a bad game at all. I think it's a great game, really. It's just pretty iterative and has few strengths to call its own that aren't shared by other, more unique From Soft games, so it's less likely to stand out as somebody's favorite.

No, it's great. Admittedly all the call back reference stuff is cheesy, but that was probably forced on them by the publisher. Gameplay wise it's great, and has the highest number of fun boss fights. If you took the gameplay of 3 and combined it with the level design and atmosphere of 1 you'd have an amazing game.

i have a very low tolerance for souls games, in the sense that once beat one i dont feel the need to play anything in the same genre again for the next several years
i must have played it too soon after beating the first dark souls cuz i got burnt out on it before i could finish it
i just beat elden ring so i probly wont have a taste for souls-likes again for at least half a decade. i almost didnt finish it this time as well.
also i will always resent this series for inventing the souls-like genre and how its infested what would have been good games otherwise
