If it was so good, why isn’t there a xenogears 2

I'm really worried about it just being XC2 2. I think 1 and 2 are both really good games (I'd probably put them both in my top 10, if not 5), but the combat system thus far seems to just be XC2 with a couple elements from 1 half-assedly thrown in.
Xenoblade Chronicles tries having a different feeling for all of its games, but 3 so far seems like a neutered version of 2 - same musical style, same aesthetics, same gameplay, same area design, returning characters, so on so forth - and I like 2, but I don't just want ANOTHER 2 from this game, and I'm really worried that's how it's going to end up. If I wanted another Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I'd go play Torna.

I don't really agree with this sentiment beyond Saito returning (disappointing, but he seems more grounded now and at least we don't have to put up with clashing styles) and the music (which is slightly less disappointing considering the caliber of 2's OST).
Beyond arts being assigned to face buttons and now attack cancelling, I don't see anything that's any more similar to 2 than the combat system of X was to 1. Visible AoEs and dodging make it seem more fast-paced, and only healers being able to revive party members changes things up as well. Also, interesting fact, apparently the characters from one of the nations have circle art icons that refill with time a la 1/X and characters from the other nations have diamond art icons that refill with attacks a la 2.

All that being said, I am still disappointed in the direction they seem to be taking. I was really hoping for something more in line with Xenoblade X or Xenosaga (I had convinced myself that they might bring CHOCO back to helm character designs and Kajiura for music) but the world merging thing could be interesting.
Or it could just be a lazy nostalgia-bait gimmick. Time will tell.
