You're right, I read all 3 forms of character and never really thought about it. Reading it up just made me realize they're not exactly the same character I thought.

Well sinicization IS a thing and has happened to every foreign conqueror of theirs. Also, I suspect the Chinese take pride in bringing western people into their fold (assuming you are western). Finally, for all their problems, the average Chinese family still hasn't forgotten about the family unit and traditional values at least.

I say if you truly love your gf and appreciate the culture, go for it. But I wouldn't get completely sinicized if I were you.

I'm a white guy, yeah. Her parents are pretty racist towards non-whites and non-east asians. Surprisingly to me they have no issues with Koreans/Japanese people but really hate anyone from, say, Vietnam.
