Samurai dude: Desire for "perfection." Trying to improve yourself by looking more conventional work and letting it influence you too much to the point that you're trendhopping. The image on the right isn't TECHNICALLY incompetent, the anatomy is okay, the shading is okay, but there's nothing special about it and some of the details of the left image are lost because the artist isn't thinking about having a style and is more focused on just being "right," so they think less in general.
