I dunno I never got around to actually playing this game, she's practically the only thing keeping me from forgetting SO5 altogether.

Square Enix doesn't really get a whole lot of say, here. They're just publishing; tri-Ace is doing everything about development. Star Ocean is their series, even if the licenses belong to Square Enix, the way japanese customs of video game development work is Square Enix would only start putting down rules regarding Star Ocean if tri-Ace disbanded completely.
At any rate, everything tri-Ace attempts is avant-garde and experimental. It rarely works out.

Tri-Ace has somehow stuck around despite only making like 3 good games (SO2, Radiata Stories, Resonance of Fate).

those space battles look shit, why is it that star ocean 3's space battles are still better than anything else in the series to this day? nothing else even close to competing with the amount of time and care they spent in creating the cutscenes with the executioner's heraldry cannons
this better not be another 30 hour game like SO5, when I play SO I expect at least 200 hours of gameplay time.

Are people still deluding themselves into thinking that Star Ocean 6 will be good?

It's open world-ish
Meaning when you are not on space it's as open it can get
They focused more on the world and gameplay than the characters models

I'm more thinking it MIGHT be better than 5. That's not a high bar.
