sid meiers pirate is okay. but gets old pretty fast

Black Flag might unironically be the best pirate game ever made.
The combat is braindead easy, but it's good for roleplaying as a pirate.
Plus, there's barely any assassin shit aside from the opening and the ending.

Its held back by being an ass creed game, and having to get through the first quarter of the game before they let you off your leash, and then the top tier upgrades are gated behind story shit way late in the game.
But when it comes to sailing around and picking fights with ships its pretty amazing and it makes all the dumb bullshit you suffered through worth it.
Mechanically it isn't super complex, but it gives rise to a lot of emergent gameplay. Like chasing a royal convoy into a hurricane and fighting around rogue waves and waterspouts only to have some pirate hunters show up.

Never played it, I'm curious because I like pirates and age of sail shit, but the art design is so offputting and I don't have friends to play with.

Black Flag is a shit assassin's creed game, but it's a great pirate game.
