dehumanizing the enemy is basic training 101 for any military ever. turns out most people don't want to kill other people, especially when their homeland has no enemies anywhere within it, so you gotta get these civilians to view the enemy as less than human and evil, so your soldiers will not only not feel bad when they kill them, but that they'll actually want to kill them.
