Why do people hate Final Fantasy IX in particular?

To be different. The only real fair complaint is the combat system being too slow but modern releases like all ff games have speed up buttons so even that really isn’t anything anymore.
Some people don’t like the art design but those are massive fags that aren’t worth even talking too.
Others say theirs no characters which just isn’t true blatantly.
Its just a solid video game, it doesn’t really do anything crazy or innovative. Its probably my favorite ff and the only real complaint i have with it is zidanes arc being kind of weak. If they framed it better and gave it more time with more focus instead of shitting around ideas too much i could see him being the fan favorite protagonist.
like “your not alone” is a good song but the actual scene is too cheesy and forced thats its incredibly akward playing though it
Oh also the abilities being rewarded via gear is ass. Incredibly annoying spending 20% if the runtime shuffling gloves and boots and shit. I love it in theory but instead of a fuck ton of passives that do nothing but make you immune to a status effect.
Cut those or condense them and you now gain the abilties at certain levels instead of learning from gear.

FFIX is the last installment that had what I loved about FF games.
>Explorable overworld.
>Expansive towns
>elaborate dungeons
>Beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds

While FFX was good, it was the 1st step away from what I loved about the series.

Overworld travelling is the stupidest, most tedious shit ever.

Its a bad system and also Just a prototype kh1 ability system which perfected it by just tying abilities to levels that you then slot in with your Ap or ff9 magic stones
Makes far more sense.
