Hunger, hydration and tiredness in games

The best part of Skyrim is the open world, going around doing shit. Survival mechanics have you do more of that, hunting then camping in the wild under the night sky. Plus, it's great for larping.

survival mechanics in non-survival games are absolute kino

>Game has survival mechanics & day/night cycle
>Day night cycle is significantly shorter than real life so you have less time to find food & water
>Character also gets hungrier than irl

In effect this means you spend 90% of the game scrounging around, very lame

it's moderately annoying that companion death is coupled with unwanted survival features because i consider the former essential to balance

Yeah, that's the main problem with survival mechanics. Either reduce hunger or make the day last longer.
