What's wrong with Sky Chase Zone? It's a nice change of pace and lets you catch your breath after Metropolis Zone. I still think 3&K is the better game however.

It's two minutes straight of an autoscroller where you face no challenge or any significant obstacles. It's boring. There's a huge change of pace from metropolis, but I wouldn't call it a good change, it goes so far in the other direction that it turns out jarring. My body is ready for more intensity after metropolis, what comes instead doesn't live up to it.

I don't know, I always thought the level was pretty relaxing and as a kid at least seeing sonic ride on the airplane was cool. The level also has nice music.

As someone who has never played a Sonic game, it seems like every stage (except green hills) gets extremely shitted on by somebody. Makes me think that Sonic isn't so good after all.

Ok I will bite on this bait here

>Emerald hill
>Chemical Plant
>Aquatic Ruin
>Mystic Cave
>Stardust Speedway
>Angel Island
>Hydrocity
>Ice Cap
>Launch Base
>Flying Battery
>Sky Sanctuary
>Death Egg zone

Don't get me wrong there are definitely bad sonic levels but if you genuinely think green hill zone is the only "good" Sonic zone then you are just retarded or not a big sonic fan.

There are only like 5 or 6 classic Sonic zones that suck and most of them are from the first game.

So the concept of Sonic was 'gotta go fast'.
In the first game, beating a level under 30 seconds awarded a lot of points.

The problem is the levels after the first ones, are usually pretty fucking hard to 'gotta go fast in' without speed running.
You often have breaks and slower areas.

Great example is level two of Sonic 1 - a few areas are waiting for obstacles to move so you can continue

The water sections in levels means Sonic moves slower, again slowing the overall gameplay and going against the 'gotta go fast' gameplay the series was advertised with

That all said, the first 3 games on the Megadrive are kino

It was fine the first time that you beat sonic 2 but whenever I replay it I dread this zone the most because instead of going at Sonic's pace I have to go at the levels pace. The enemy variety is super weak, the movement is clunky and sluggish because you are also using sonics movements to control the plane at the same time and when you try to rush it using the spin dash on the plane you immediately die and have to do the level over again.

Why am I supposed to hate this zone again? Not sure why I have seen this meme pop up in recent years. This zone was cool. Youre on the fucking plane ON THE PLANE

>The problem is the levels after the first ones, are usually pretty fucking hard to 'gotta go fast in' without speed running.
I'm going to post it.

>Zoomers think the plane is bad
I tire of you

I like Sky Chase. Mirage Saloon Act 1 can go fuck itself, though. The coolest zone theme, and you only get the full experience if you play as Knuckles or do Encore mode.

Sky Chase is kino, they didn't anticipate autists playing it 1000000 times to shave off milliseconds and thus didn't consider it when designing

You just proved my point user
Marble Zone is slow as shit compared to Green Hill Zone unless you're speed running. Which the webm shows the player is by constantly fucking jumping like a sperg

>two minutes
only autistic speedrunners HATE sky chase. it's comfy and soul.

Sonic is great but it's not for everyone, you know how everyone has that one game franchise that everyone loves but you just seem to hate? Sonic is like that to many, but to those who can like it they do. Sonic is one of the best platformers in existence (second only to Super Mario Bros) but only if you look at Sonic 1-K.

>constantly pulling back to make jumps
>mandatory wall switch that halts you
>zig-zag level design that kills momentum
And that's being generous. This is obviously an expert playing and it still looks slow and unfun.

This is exactly how I feel.

>has basic knowledge of level layout and enemy placement

OMG WHAT AN EXPERT SPEEDRUNNER HOLY SHIT HOW MANY HOURS HAVE YOU PLAYED JESUS

user
I mentioned the jumping
I did not mention the knowledge of the layout of the level or enemy

The fact you constantly are slowing down by jumping and controlling your movement versus the mostly free gameplay of Green Hill shows that it's pretty fucking slow overall

It's like comparing Angel Island to Marble Garden. Yes, you can 'get through fast' but one of them is built around it and the other is not

Sonic 1
>Marble Zone
>Labyrinth Zone
>Star Light Zone
>Scrap Brain Zone

Sonic 2
>Chemical Plant Zone
>Casino Night Zone
>Oil Ocean Zone
>Sky Chase Zone
>Wing Fortress Zone
>Death Egg Zone

Sonic 3 & Knuckles
>Hydrocity Zone
>IceCap Zone
>Launch Base Zone
>Flying Battery Zone
>Lava Reef Zone
>Sky Sanctuary Zone
>Death Egg Zone

All of the above are 10/10 levels and out of the entire original "trilogy" (S3 and S&K were originally meant to be 1 game) there are only 4 bad levels:
>Spring Yard Zone
>Mystic Cave Zone
>Metropolis Zone
>Marble Garden Zone
