dunno maybe I'm just burnt out but Crossbell just isn't as charming as Liberl. I think it's the characters, Loyd and Elie are like two different brands of white bread. Tio is a weeb trope but she's cute at least. Randy is cool but he's the 10th iteration of a "laidback guy who's holding back his dark past". Noel is HOT and cute but that's about it.
Just not really invested in anyone, in the first game I'd often be like "Oh shit it's a scene with Kevin" and I'd get hyped but here I feel nothing like it

Ao has a great climax. I binged the entire series this February/March and it does feel like it progressively gets worse.

Some of the "routine busy work" is still there, unfortunately. Like how in Sky 2 you'd visit all the towers and then the Aureole at the end. In Cold Steel you go on like 4 school excursions and then you go on a big excursion at the end. It's ... formulaic.
I liked Sky 3 a lot story wise but it introduced some absolutely atrocious mechanics which I'll never forgive Falcom for. Fuck enemies getting AoE instant death attacks and vanish.

I’d at least try to finish Ao. For me at least 2nd chapter through the ending was the peak of the series, though it’s perfectly reasonable to prefer sky still.

Or better yet they shouldn’t have been introduced at all. The end of FC was kino because after a full game of fighting monsters and people the final dungeon has these ancient automatons that make whoever built them seem super advanced and mysterious. Then SC onwards Snake niggers just pull and infinite amount out of their ass and crossbell literally use robots to clean the fucking sewers.
