Is there a worse method of storytelling in a game than a silent protagonist? Having everyone around the player character do all the talking while you stay silent feels incredibly jarring

Golden Sun 1 and 2 have different protagonists. Felix is 2's mc and Isaac is 1's, for some reason they are completely silent in their respective games but talk in the other, also in GS2 Felix has a single line of dialogue that is completely inconsequential I wonder why it was even put there.
Also Chrono Trigger if you beat the game after meeting the Mammon Machine
