Nobody's going to play a kart racer besides Mario Kart online. It was only worthwhile to make clones when games were offline affairs, and Mario Kart didn't have a complete stranglehold. Nobody wants to touch other Kart Racers because they'll always feel like bootlegs.

No other franchise could top it off. Most of the kart racing games are just shovelware Mario Kart, with a few exceptions like Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, CTR. and DKR. Nothing else managed to bring a different spin to the genre.
