Resembles a dog, but it clearly isn't a dog anymore. The creature is uncanny, and if you saw this thing come around a corner like a dog would, you wouldn't be standing still.
Both are scary. They're just different kinds of scary. I wouldn't want either one of those chasing me. Of course, there's 'tough guys' who will say that one or the other isn't scary, but it's a fact that anyone would be freaking out or losing their cool the moment either one of thos came around a corner.

I'd even say it like that: right is better for a slower horror game, where you have time to examine enemies, to see that it's a sick dog changed by something evil. Left is better for an action horror game like Dead Space, where you shoot stuff on sight so you need something more obviously fucked up visually.
