Halo 4 came out in 2012 and that was at the peak of big entertainment companies becoming extremely risk averse and only doing rehashes/reboots/sequels and avoiding anything original.
Your average retard hadn't really caught onto the fact they were being taken for a ride as consoomers yet. Fans were very quick to forget pic related.
So it wasn't really that risky. Plus Reach was already a heavy blow to the argument that the series should stay rooted in it's legacy. Which is why a lot of people just have pure blind rage for it.
