Holy shit. I've been playing Spelunky HD for 10 years.

Haven't played DustForce but you have good taste so I will have to

I think dustforce and hotline miami 1 are kinda overrated, but maybe I'm just not a fan of the "autistically retry a game until you get that one run that's perfectly choreographed" genre

i've been playing spelunky for i don't know how long and still haven't beaten hell god damn

What are some good indie games Any Forums?

>Be me
>2014ish
>See Spelunky
>”Oh cool, a Terraria/Starbound clone!”
>It’s a fucking platformer
>Uninstall

If refunds on steam existed back then I would have.

Undertale

>>See Spelunky
>>”Oh cool, a Terraria/Starbound clone!”
Are you fucking retarded? And why are you blaming the game for your being completely fucking retarded?

I'm not the biggest fan of dustforce myself, I mean, I don't think it's a bad game, it just didn't click with me personally, but we had youtube for almost a decade in 2014, you could have checked gameplay videos of it man. I think youtube even had HD video at that point.

The best runs of hotline Miami are when you have a particular plan for a run, and then that plan fails but you clusterfuck your way through the area and win anyway.

Jesus Christ are you for real?

>autistically retry a game until you get that one run that's perfectly choreographed
That describes Dustforce pretty well, but Hotline Miami is more open in how you can tackle things (albeit still pretty punishing)

Indie games were so fucking good back then. It was nonstop hits. You had games like Dear Esther, Bastion, the list goes on.

Back in the day nearly every genre had platforming in it you little bitch

What do you think about undertale or celeste?

As much as I liked Dear Esther at the time (I even played the original non-remastered sourcemod version), I have some level of resentment for it for kicking off the "pretentious walking simulator" genre for a few years after it.

Good indie games never stopped being made after that, they just started getting more complex, is all. What you're nostalgic for is elegant simplicity, where you just tried things because they were interesting, not because someone here told you to like it, not because some fucking retard on twitter complained about it or told you that it was some kind of political statement, you were just playing it because "Hey that looks cool" and then you played it.

Dear Esther is patient zero in pretentious walking sims. Everything else has been an improvement even I’m a lesbian the game Gone Home

isn't celeste a tranny game? no thanks

Never heard of them.

These either.

It was. I liked it at the time because it was a new and interesting concept. Also, it had a "vibe". It didn't feel preachy about anything, it just felt like a story told with schizophrenic dialogue you kinda had to piece together to infer. The remaster if nothing else looked REALLY pretty for the source engine. I always saw it as more of an art project than a game, the problem is that the stuff that came after was insisted upon by journalists that they were games, when they really weren't, if they're games, so are visual novels.

Ultimately, again, I bring up that things were simpler when Dear Esther came out, I wasn't in a position where I had to hear people deepthroat the experience, I just got to experience it for myself, complete it a few times doing different routes, and then moved on, so I have less hostile memories towards it. The problem is again, the retroactive resentment stemming from things that came after it.

I never played either but I do remember listening to ytpmv's of Undertale songs, shit was ight. I'd also watch GoAnimate videos back then. As for Celeste, I've seen some speedruns. The composer for Celeste made an official Minecraft album, it was alright. She's also a troon.

I feel like most of the indie game scene has since moved to itch.io and a lot of the best ones are free too. Backrooms, AngerFoot, Doki Doki, FNF, Deltarune.

I've been visiting itch.io a lot lately, it started just for porn games like Town of Magic, but I stuck around for stuff like First Cut and all the stuff you mentioned.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of these itch games aren't super high quality, but a lot of them are at least INTERESTING.

Be lucky that we are separated via the internet. If you said something like this in real life I would twist you into a knot and toss you in a river.
