It was fine. It was a significant leap forward graphically and in terms of scope. Its issues are often heavily exaggerated as is the case with Sonic Adventure 1 where people would go heavily out of their way to find glitches or bugs

Yes and no, the city trials are garbage. Even if they fixed the horrendous loading after every line of dialogs it still wouldn't fix the shitty ones like the math breaking box ones.
The actual sonic levels are fine, shadow are okay and silver is just shit.

Compared to games today you're right, it wasn't. If this game were to release as it did in 2006, in current year it would be one of the least broken AAA games released this year.
Let that sink in on the current state of gaming.
06 was the gold standard of what not to be. Now it's not even in the bottom 50%.
Also the Elise x Sonic romance is less cringe than whatever shitty romance AAA games try and force in.
