I liked VLR but thought the first game was overall better.

I do think that 999 has a better cast and slightly better atmosphere but I do appreciate how VLR cranks the plot and timeline hijinks up to 11, though I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone.
I heard the Steam release of 999 lets you skip repeat playthroughs of the puzzles and I hope it's true because that's the biggest flaw of that game.

I don't mind the story shift to multiple universe theory as much as other people, but the biggest issue I had with the second game was every character having a specific ending instead of there being ending scenarios like the first one made the game feel way too bloated. And the extreme overuse of gore porn which ZTD doubled down on. The first game had only a couple of scenes like that and it made them a lot more special.

well, science adventure series is probably the peak of the genre. ever17 and the other works of that guy are up there too.

I liked Ai the somnium files. Looking forward to the sequel

YTTD is up there for me. Now if only Nankidai would focus on finish the damn game instead of constantly working on side projects we would have gotten the ending a long time ago.

I wouldn't put most of SciAdv close to those other games in terms of genre because they're a little light on the whole killing part. Except maybe Chaos.
Infinity series is good though I haven't played Never7.

I forgot about AI, it was a wild ride.

I only played 1 or 2 chapters of YTTD, I should play more at some point.

Raging Loop is probably up your alley though for the most part it's linear. Synopsis of the game is a game of Werewolf/Mafia in a Time Loop. If you just want isolated murder mysteries Umineko might be up your alley, though I'm only on like the second episode of it. It's first episode is super solid and I care more about the cast of Umineko in about 10 hours than VLR's cast throughout it's entire game. There aren't really a lot of good killing game games out there. There are manga like Alice in Borderland and As The Gods Will if you want to check those out. This one is only really related in that people die and their being mysteries to solve but Spirit Hunter: NG is a fun paranormal detective game. There's a multiroute western Horror VN called The Letter that involves haunted chain-mail. Focuses on character relationships and one guy says nigger voiced if you think that'll get you a laugh.

Okay so I'm mildly retarded and completely forgot to mention HEAD AS CODE and BIRTH ME CODE. They are two western VNs that are so zero escape inspired it hurts. HEAD AS CODE is pretty weak for it's first 2/3rds but the end is a good ride and BIRTH ME CODE is just a good run overall. There's also an insanely mediocre VN called The Zodiac Trial which people are locked in a school and forced to participate in a race similar to how the Chinese Zodiac were chosen. ZE inspired. Kinda fun but it's super rough.
Enjoy your games friend.

>Raging Loop
Funny you should bring this one up, I recently finished it and I'm now reading through the extras. A little weak in it's presentation but highly underrated.

>Umineko
Also a good one.

I'll look into the other ones, thanks user

Zero Escape, Somnium Files, DangitRonPaul, Your Turn to Die, Raging Loop, Gnosia.
I need MORE

Man, I loved VLR so much. Siggy and Phido were just too much fun

I haven't actually played yet but it is on my list.
It but it was nominated for various awards in Japan.
From the synopsis it sounds like it kinda fits the bill.

>Gnosia
Redpill me on this. It looks very strange (randomly generated situations and debates?)
Wouldn't it be weak in terms of story?

Time Hollow
Ghost Trick
Lux Pain(it's shit)

Dont play YTTD until it's finished. Or try to put time between chapters or something

I finished it a few weeks ago and as cool as the concept is it failed pretty badly in its execution. You're basically replaying the same loop over and over again with little variation until you get a chance to complete a certain objective then it's back to the same loop until your next chance to clear another objective pops up.

Those are all shit, besides ghost trick which is great but nothing like what hes talking about.

And Somnium files is?

I played it and it felt very weak. The first 5 or so hours feel fresh and very interesting since you keep getting new content but then it hits a wall and you're essentially farming and repeating the same strategies over and over. I also didnt care for nearly all of the cast

I will never not be mad about how shit ZTD was.
