I've been trying to figure out what game this was for years, since I was only able to play a snippet of it as a kid. Please let me know if it rings a bell. I remember playing a game when I was younger, it was based in japan when guns were becoming an issue and swordplay/samurai were being phased out. Atleast I'm pretty sure because I got killed in a cut-scene by a guy with a gun after I tried to stop them from pillaging a villager's home.
I only got to play like 20 minutes and when that happened my brother took the controller from me. This was back on the PS2 and it's been driving me crazy wondering what that game was to this day.

Nah it was a game. But it was a long time ago, I just remember the guns not being garbage like they were in early japan. Though that could have been a gameplay thing, I mean they auto fire in samurai warriors so why not.
I know for a fact it wasn't in the old west, that game is hard to forget with how unusual the setting is.

This isn't your answer but I had the same problem trying to find this game. All I had to go on was old memories of a demo disk and the fact that after standard samuri action on of the guys vomited up an alien slug. The demo ended there but needless to say, that twist stuck with me for a very very long time

It was definately PS2 Era, the graphics remind me too much of Samurai Warriors 1 and early Way of the Samurai. This had to be when the PS2 was still getting games frequently, since it was a new game at the time.
If it was, it had great graphics for PS1.

Sounds a lot like one of the Way of the Samurai games, though perhaps one of the Bushido Blade series is possible? I know that characters with guns were a big deal in that series which was quasi-realistic to begin with.
