with modern tooling and phones you can also stream a lot of your games to the phone anyway although it requires some setup.

and streaming sucks, im in an area with decent internet but streaming still leaves alot to be desired

It's legitimately the first good realization of a portable gaming PC. I've tried so many laptops and so many other handheld machines but they all have some super annoying quirks that put me off. The Steam Deck isn't perfect but it gets modt if it so right.
It's not for everyone. Like you said, most people are better off buying a desktop pc if they want to get into pc gaming or using that Deck money on a new gpu instead but for the small niche of people that want a portable PC experience then the Deck is as close to perfect as these things have gotten.
