The api, and from mojang. It's all part of their Feature Parity stuff going on. Where they're trying to get the games to be exactly the same. Basically all your chat will get dumped and associated with your microsoft account, rather than just to an individual server's logs, and it pulls for just strings containing whitelisted phrases and words.

It is really scummy. Micro$oft is banking on kids making edgy content on their servers so they can slowly drain the money out of their parents wallets without them realizing. Then getting another minecraft sale and being able to trick investors into thinking the game is still growing fast.

Nah, I don't buy it. The communication for chat logs exist between client -> server. The client wouldn't send it to microsoft, since you can just mod it out or blacklist the IP. The server also wouldn't send it, since they could do the same, or run a custom server like spigot. It would be impractical and cause an outrage if they started doing this.
