I want to say either 2004 or 2005 for me
When did you start noticing normies liking video games?

Fuck off, normalfag.
When did you start playing games?
hurr durr hurr
zoomers are too young to remember when most of the normal crowd criticized everyone for playing video games. i was forged in the fires that they will never know
CoD, GTA, sport game, and Halo were the beginning of it 100%
/thread
around 2004 but it was just cod and halo which i disregarded as trash anyway
Around the PS2 days was when kids started universally liking vidya, assuming of course you played the socially acceptable games like FIFA and fightans.
PS4 was when gaming in general became normiecore, likely because it was when that PS2 generation grew up.
1996 when I was 5 years old wanting an N64 playing the Mario Kart and Super Mario 64 demos and Sears. If I wasn't a normie as a toddler into child what was I?
Since arcades were a thing
I got hired at this private school to teach game dev to kids with dumb programs and what not, sometimes a random kid spouts some kinda interesting thing like "I like MegaMan games" and I gotta try my hardest not to go into full autism mode and talk about vidya facts all day. Gotta keep the respect of the class you know. I think it's neat, games shouldn't be niche stuff
When the Wii came out.
When ff7 came out and every rando I knew loved it. I liked it too but it just opened up the flood gates.
>games shouldn't be niche stuff
yes they should. lack of gatekeeping is what ruined this hobby.
fpbp
I am a normie, so i wouldn't know
The PS2 and, to a lesser extent but still impactful, Xbox original, spearheaded by Madden, NBA Live, and GTA III/VC/SA.
this video explained it best to me OP

You're a fucking liar and this idea is so fucking dumb since arcades were a thing for two decades. At best you were seen as childish like people reading comic books and it was assumed you wouldn't sperg out about Tifa's titties in polite conversation.
right when san andreas dropped, literally had half the neighborhood lined up to play it at my house
Yeah, around other losers maybe
normies have always liked video games
>normies
Way to out yourself.
92ish
In my country, you were laughed at and bullied for playing video games and that didn't change until the early 2010s, maybe late 2000s. I'm not exaggerating.
The only exceptions were über normie shit like FIFA or GTA.
First of all fippybippy. And like said it depends on the country. Here videogames weren't truly mainstream until League of Legends became ultra popular.
I’ll never forget my first gf asking me about the games I liked when the subject first came up, and I said battlefield and whatever else and then she said in a disgusted tone and contorted face... oh... you play those kinds of games....
Also in gym class some guy asked what I was doing after school and as I hesitated he said you’re not one of those kids that just stays in his room all day and plays games are you? Uhhhhhhhhh.... no...
this was 2002ish
Gatekeeping something like video games is impossible.
you want an specific date?
Don't bother user, there's retards that still think gatekeeping works. There's nothing we could do, it was just a matter of time.
Anyone who thinks games were fucking niche in the 2000's is either a zoomer or late millenial.
When I was dating someone in highschool in 2004 she was appaled that I got a copy of pokemon emerald and the RE4 chainsaw controller. She was a stupid bitch though and it was funny to blow air in her pussy when she was sitting on my face and it would come out as funny sounds
Sucks for me all I got was a kiss. And a broken heart :’^(
Gatekeeping works in hobbies that aren't solely owned by companies. You can't gatekeep this hobby because it is 100% for profit and made by companies that put millions into games and expect millions in return. Any attempt to gatekeep will be thwarted by these companies who have zero reason to want less money.
Probably around then yeah. When WoW launched.
Normalniggers are extremely social creatures and they only really started playing more vidya when online multiplayer was made easily accessible on consoles. I know a few of them who refuse to play a game if it's not an online multiplayer game. They don't really like videogames that much, they just use them for social interactions. You can know if someone really likes vidya by knowing if they like single player games.
This
Pretty much. Sharing my childhood vidya stories with teens today makes me not just feel like a grandpa but like I'm just flat out making shit up
1985.
>you’re not one of those kids that just stays in his room all day and plays games are you?
Any well adjusted person knows that the only person who would ask this in this way stays in his own room and plays video games all day. His disgust was at himself.
Normies liked video games so much when Pac-man came out at filk songs written about it were number one jams of the summer, fucking eternal septem-nigger
Since videogames came out
It wasn't until probably 2011 or later that I actually noticed it around me. Logically I know it must have been earlier, but I absolutely never saw it among the normalfags while I was in school.
