Why does Any Forums hate the Unreal Engine? It completely MOGs all the other meme engines out there both from an ease of use and feature set standpoint. Sure there's a lot of shovelware out there using it but that's because UE is an engine with good fucking documentation for once so even less skilled people can actually figure out how to make things with it.

FF7R looked good with it
I really liked UE4, but UE5 runs way worse on my computer. Also, being forced to download Chinese spyware bloat in order to use it is beyond gay as hell.
it makes for low effort games
for instance if someone makes an outdoor area, they make a polygon for the land mass and then it's just lazy sprites as grass everywhere rather than handcrafting these areas to provide character, sure it saves time, but it makes them all seem the same
Lmao nobody hates it besides valvetrannies

You can download UE5's source code from the GitHub repo and compile it yourself.
Why did the superior engine fail?
>thinking modern game devs even know how to do this
they're all retards that took a college course and can navigate a UI, they don't know shit about compiling
>no dynamic global illumination like Lumen
>the lighting has to be baked instead
>baking it takes a long time
>you have to bake it over again if you change anything in the map
>Made an engine specifically for 1 game
>ditched it immediately after release
What the fuck was Creative Assembly on
People hate the unreal engine for the same reason people hate steam. They're top dog.
Success breeds jealousy.
If you sign up for Epic's GitHub, you can download the source and build it in Visual Studio. From there you can use it without ever having to touch the Epic Games Launcher.
Keep in mind though that the launcher is necessary to use the marketplace and download assets, but if you can make your own assets you might not need the marketplace as much.
Look at Hammer and then ask yourself the same question again.
Because it kills creativity and makes every game have similar quarks and samey mechanics. Are you retarded?
I keep hearing people here talk about how its better for games to have their own custom engine, but they don't realize that making a custom 3D game engine for a current-gen game is extremely difficult, extremely time-consuming and extremely expensive.
If you're an AAA studio, I can see it, but for most indie developers, it's a lot easier said than done.
>implying amateur turd devs even know what github is
If they can't do a simple 'git clone' and click a simple button inside Visual Studio, they've got more serious issues than making a game.
unreal is one of the top 5 reasons every game is the fucking same. all their effort is focused on rendering features for le epic tech demos, meanwhile everything else is left to rot
>every game sucks now
>every game uses unreal
COINCIDENCE?
I'm using UE5 to render 4K CGI animations at super-fast speeds. I think the quality is convincing enough.
Just as God Carmack intended.
I didn't revisit it since the GoldSrc days, how is it now?
