I think everyone can agree that inserting memes into a localization is retarded
but what is the appropriate way to handle memes in the source text? When games make 2ch references or use japanese 1337 speak?
Keep it obtuse by going full wwwww and translating the meaning of the japanese memes? Grabbing whatever is appropriate from current memes?

Provide a source of references, kinda like an index for the jokes. Pani Poni Dash did that in one of their releases because of the sheer amount of references makes it impossible to actually localize.
