Is this game as incredible as everyone claims? Where ever expansion has been good and it is arguably in its prime right now? Or am I being trolled and it's just overrated shit but people think they like it because WoW has been so bad for years now? I've played a lot of MMOs, but the majority of my time has been on WoW, although I haven't played that in a year, and I want to scratch my MMO itch, and it seems like FFXIV is the obvious choice. I have played FFXIV briefly in the past, before HW, up until like level 20 something, but I just went back to WoW and never gave FFXIV a fair shake. People always talk about how amazing the story is, and while I enjoy a good story, that isn't the thing that is going to keep me interested in an MMO, so is there more going on to this game than a great story? I want community, fun side activities that don't feel like a second job, fun dungeons and raids, and to just be surprised and to once again feel that experience of being lost in a new world, exploring and enjoying the adventure. Can this game really provide that, or is everyone full of shit?

I enjoyed it when it blew up last year and I quit for school but I'm DLing it again right now actually. I don't generally like Jap games and I can't stand anime shit but it's not a bad game.
I enjoy it. If you are a final fantasy fan you will see a lot of references in this but even if you are not a fan you can enjoy the game. now the fun activities and raids are present and they don’t feel like a “second job” you can do whatever you want and have fun. the story is also good but that depends on your tastes some people like it some people don’t. everyone says it gets good at the first expansion so I guess if you don’t like it by then you won’t like it later on. Its overall a fun game and there isn’t a pressure to catch up since you can get gear and be good to go there really aren’t systems like wow or specs so customization is very limited when it comes to classes there are no different builds. I would say the pvp is also lacking it isn’t as fun as wow but the new mode feels fresh and interesting so there is that. the raiding scene is also much much better than in wow its not a hassle to raid you could just put up a pf and you are set to go. there is also no need for add-ons for the hardest content people on console could clear. overall its a fun game in my opinion you don’t feel forced to stay subbed just log on and do whatever. there is a trial you could play that covers the base game and the first expansion play it to the end if you don’t like it just drop the game.
Why don't you try it? It's free for the First 200+ hours. Your addiction isn't going away anyway.
It took me three tries to finally get into it but it is a good game overall.
Things it has that you want:
>community
>fun side activities that don't feel like a job
>raids
The dungeons are fine but I wouldn't say they are amazing. Exploration might not feel that great since the world is not interconnected but rather broken up into zones. If you end up enjoying the story then it will definitely feel like an adventure.
I guess my main concern is, after the enjoyable story, am I still going to love the game? The story eventually ends, or pauses until more content comes out, and I want to make sure I will still have fun logging on daily. But as long as the raids and side content remain fun and never feel like chores, I think I will enjoy the game.
This; just play through the end of the trial and then decide if you want to finish it.
I just finished it up to the current patch a few weeks ago and have been doing side content. After you finish the story content it goes back to feeling like an mmo. To do the current extreme trials and raids you need a decent item level, so I've been logging in daily to farm out gear. Working up to doing an ultimate raid takes time, so even working toward one of those would keep you playing for a while I would guess. Then there is other side content like crafting, end game optional zones that have their own stories and group content, golden saucer shit, etc. If you play every single day you will eventually do all the content in the game but it would still take a long, long time to get to that point if you're just starting now.
It's not 'incredible', but it is by MMO standards. By JRPG standards it's definitely on the higher side. It's worth a playthrough and they're making it more solo friendly recently. I'd never done any of the content solo until recently where I couldnt find a group for a storyline fight I was on and was surprised the AI was more competent than over half the playerbase.
It wont feel like a chore because the side content for farming tokens only takes an hour or two and caps out in like 4 days if you do all the dungeon queues. If you do all the raids on reset day itll take a bit longer on that day, but only an hour or two extra. You can basically play it 4 days on 3 days off.
it's a competent themepark mmo and the only squeenix game in like 10 years that didn't utterly shit the bed dq is enix
so yeah by those standards it's incredible. the best thing you can say about it is that the really good parts feel like a final fantasy game and the rest is tolerable
Which god is going to get lyrics in the second raid?
youtube.com
user, you can play the base game and 1st expansion for free. That will kill time and people are always doing the older content.
>Where ever expansion has been good and it is arguably in its prime right now?
Some people argue about which is best and what order. But generally it's arguing about which expansion is a 9/10 and which is a 9.2/10.
>Or am I being trolled and it's just overrated shit but people think they like it because WoW has been so bad for years now?
FFXIV was designed around WoW's systems (self admitted by the devs), but has improved its systems and become more player friendly over time. There's a reason why a lot of WoW refugees found a home in XIV, and it's because it just feels like WoW with a bunch of QoL buffs (outside of no add-on support).
>I have played FFXIV briefly in the past, before HW, up until like level 20 something, but I just went back to WoW and never gave FFXIV a fair shake.
The beginning of the game sucks. There's no way around it. The game is slow and boring until most jobs are level 50+, and some of them are still boring until 60 or 70. If your main goal is to enjoy the leveling experience, you HAVE to be more story focused. If you're more interested in endgame activity, honestly consider story/level skipping and just watching the story in the NG+ feature instead if you're interested in it.
>fun side activities that don't feel like a second job, fun dungeons and raids,
I think this is the single greatest argument for XIV. Getting to BiS gear is just about getting to a minimum iLvl and then raiding with your friends or pugging. No sub systems or legendaries or other huge grinds to be able to raid. And no world buffs, run backs, or other anti-fun things that make wiping in a raid more stressful than needed.
also cute girls.
Mephina, and on third its gonna be Oschon, who's gonna out to be the npc from the questline
>Mephina
The story is good but the actual gameplay is super railroaded and the only challenge comes from having to get 5 other people who can't tell left from right to follow simple instructions.
You can't even really customize your character build which I would consider a basic function of RPGs, especially one that is trying to be an open ended virtual world.
>the only challenge comes from having to get 5 other people who can't tell left from right to follow simple instructions.
My brain goes to poo every time
>Is this game as incredible as everyone claims?
Not unless you're an ironic weeb
It has a decent story for final fantasy games (solid 7/10) but since it's an mmo it's presented in a garbage way, still very enjoyable.
As an mmo it's one of the worst games I've ever played, but all mmo are shit games so it's not unique to this one.
What is unique however is that the community is unironically full of blue checks from Twitter.
It also has one of the laziest most bare bones patch cycles I've ever seen, I don't know how people can continue to play this shit for years.
The games community is hot garbage, why are you lying
In what way? It has places for raiders, RPers, completionists, even a small section of PVP players.
The gameplay is bad and even if you try to play it like a singleplayer game, you still have to deal with all the bs that comes from an MMO. I would rather play any other FF game.
I feel like it's both. I constantly keep up with the squad even when I'm not subbed and it's always a blast when most of us subbed and can bust through content. I also like catching up with the cool dudes I have run into over the 8 years.
However, during the patch lulls or when a new game comes out that people flock to, the diehard "always playing or subbed" community drives me nuts. They are often the reason I eventually unsub, as I get tired of dealing with people who can't think or follow directions, yet feel bullied when the game becomes unwinnable unless they get it together or I call them out and possibly remove them. I can only tease them for long before that also becomes boring, especially with how they like to weaponize the ToS.
