Undertale killed the indie scene for years to come, with many games trying to copy it's style and story.
Without realizing the only reason Undertale worked at at the time, was because the concept was unique for the normie sphere.

And because it had a great soundtrack, a unique concept and charming character designs that were easy for people to latch onto

I don't know why everyone pretends Undertale was a fluke. There was clear passion put into it, whether you like the game or not

deltarune is enough proof that undertale wasnt really a fluke, the concept is solid and the creativity of the author is solid
I unironically believed UT was a bit of an one-off back when i first played chapter 1 with how blander it seemed, but then chapter 2, the superboss, the gaster schizoing, the alt route all blew me (and Any Forums for a week or so) away. I trust the dog.

Too bad the execution is complete shit, like most games that flop. Anyone can have a hint of creativity, but it doesn't mean shit if it falls apart at the slightest scrutiny

Literally all the characters are annoying one note clichés that are purposefully drawn bad. Their entire existence is one-note garbage that was already beaten to death in the most amateurish of children's books

It was a fluke due to forced memes, its normalfag tier jabs at rpgs and due to le IMPOSSIBLE BOSS FIGHT that doesn't even hold a candle to even subpar shoot em ups/bullet hells
