At the time we had no idea, Fates seemed so off but in retrospect it wasn’t too different

I don’t have a Switch so didn’t play 3 Houses, so can’t comment on it. But Shadows of Valentina was awesome despite being a super faithful remake in places and deviating massively in others

Fates era was miserable if you liked fates. People legit thought that birthright was gaiden tier gameplay and nobody could talk about conquest without forest, skill spam, retard corrin, gimmick characters, or the story being brought up every time to call conquest shit. Just skip the premap scenes with Start. Another user a couple of days ago did a “pick my units” thread for fates where other anons would roll for his characters to either be recruited or die on their join map. Seems like a fun challenge to get back into the game. I think he did even lives and odds die or something.
