A lot of people do. I distinctly remember my first time playing lots of games, FF7, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure etc etc. Don't know why you would think that's an uncommon thing for people to remember.

Is emulating the original 3 fine? I've only ever tried using the ps2 emulator but I've heard is garbage so I'm curious is psx emulator runs well

Plugin based PS1 emulators are shit. Standalones have come a long way and are great.

Psx emulation works pretty good, try duckstation, I've never used it myself but I hear it's better than ePSXe. I personally have a vita with a grip that adds l2/r2 buttons that touch the rear TouchPad so I do all my PSX gaming on that.

I wouldn't say "by far" considering Beetle exists. but those are the only two PS1 emus worth using.

Beetle is just a rebadge of Mednafen; Beetle PSX HW is the same with proper custom resolutions and such. Duckstation is good, but wasn't it also forked off Mednafen?

I dunno. I used Mednafen for over a decade but recently switched to Duckstation just because it's more convenient. ePSXe sucks donkey dick and I was glad when I found Mednafen.

Oh, Duckstation is great even just for having an actual fucking UI (thanks, Dolphin!), arbitrary resolution settings, better anti-jitter implementation, and running smooth like butter, but I stick with Beetle solely because on my machine DS has a tiny bit of input lag that's just noticeable enough to drive me batshit. I don't use Retroarch for anything else, literally just Beetle. So happy we're out of the dark ages of ePSXe and PCSXR, though. Fuck that shit.
