Due to the speed of which actual bullets travel and the limitations of a network actually getting a projectile to travel at appropriate speeds is very difficult if actually to scale. If you aimed and shot at a target the server latency alone could make you miss. Also taking recoil and movement and handling into account no one would have perfect precision anyway. If that bothers you take into consideration you actually firing real life speed arrows or slower due to server limitations. If you have to lead a shot at all in a video game and the target is not in a perpendicular sprint it's not realistic. A D Strafing doesn't exist IRL due to bullet travel speeds. Also shotguns would rule all video games except shit like ARMA.
TLDR; Hitscan is as close as they can get to duplicating most actual projectile characteristics in the chosen enviroment. Shotguns OP.
