are there any biome mods? I remember playing Nterraria what feels like a decade ago, and they had options for building world that were, say entirely underground. Any mods like that?

Vanilla or thorium. I always play with Thorium, its content curve is on par with the base game so it blends very well. If you want more bosses, then I guess go Calamity. Its hard but its not fun.
